Max number of participants: 24 For training where G-map is the venue the maximum number of participants is 12; for other venues arranged by the purchaser, we can accommodate up to 25 participants.
Suitable for:
Specifically for those undertaking or supporting direct interventions with children and young people who have displayed inappropriate or harmful sexual behaviour, including YOT workers, social workers, police officers, health professionals, residential social workers, education staff and others in the safeguarding children / public protection network.
Prerequisites:
Participants are expected to have a good working knowledge of issues relating to work with children and young people who have displayed inappropriate or harmful sexual behaviour.
Objectives:
This course will consider how our work with young people with specific learning needs such as a learning disability and autistic spectrum disorders can be accounted for. It will specifically address:
The assessment of learning needs and how it can inform therapeutic practice, including intervention planning and treatment delivery.
Making assessment and treatment responsive to learning needs through the adaptation of models and tools for use in both individual and group-work formats.
Overcoming challenges in assessment and treatment and establishing realistic treatment targets.
Strengths-based practice: Empowering young people with learning needs to make positive choices, whilst promoting healthy sexual functioning.
How to engage and mobilise the support network of young people with learning needs in order that learning and skills development can be enhanced, consolidated and transferred to real-life settings.
